What Is Animula Nook? — Game Overview & Everything You Need to Know

New to Animula Nook? Here's everything you need to know — what kind of game it is, how it plays, what makes it special, and why players are excited.

Animula Nook — Life in miniature

Animula Nook (粒粒的小人国) is an upcoming free-to-play cozy life simulation game developed by LilliLandia Games (银之心工作室), an indie studio under Tencent Games. It is set in a miniature world called Minietopia — built on top of an ordinary desk.

The game is confirmed for PC (Steam & Epic), Mac, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2. A mobile version has not been officially confirmed.

The Core Concept

In Animula Nook, you play as a Heartseeker (心愿者) — a person who has unexpectedly shrunk down to just 5cm tall. From your new miniature perspective, everything around you transforms:

  • A clock becomes an armchair
  • A bottle cap becomes a dinner plate
  • A lollipop becomes a giant hammer
  • An ordinary desk becomes a vast, living world

The game’s slogan captures it perfectly: “小小的我,自在地活”Small me, living freely.

What Do You Actually Do?

Animula Nook is a sandbox life sim with no fixed goals or forced schedules. You play at your own pace, choosing what to do each day:

🏡 Build Your Homestead

Craft your home from everyday odds and ends. Milk cartons become charming houses, teacups turn into cafés, and spice jars transform into glowing little shops. Start on your desk, then expand to windowsills, cabinets, and beyond.

🌱 Farm and Craft

Grow crops in flowerpots and craft using resources you collect in the world — including some you’d never find in other games: shake a flower to collect pollen, catch a scent to make ice cream, bottle up sunlight, morning dew, and gentle breezes. When you’re small, the little things matter.

👗 Style Your OOTD

Express yourself with a vast wardrobe — from sweet and cute to vintage and cool. Minies will actually comment on what you’re wearing, whether they love it or… don’t.

🎵 Form a Band

With 8 instruments to play, you can form a little band with your Minie neighbors and let music fill your miniature home.

🗺️ Explore the Wupa Woods

Venture beyond your homestead into the Wupa Woods (乌帕大森林) — a lush, enchanting forest full of hidden Minies, rare resources, and secrets waiting to be uncovered.

⚔️ Dark Star Abyss

For players who want a challenge, the Dark Star Abyss (暗星深井) is a co-op dungeon mode with light combat and roguelite elements. It’s optional — you can enjoy all the main content without ever setting foot inside.

The Minies — Your Tiny Neighbors

The heart of Animula Nook is its cast of Minies — the original tiny inhabitants of Minietopia. There are currently around 100 Minies designed across four races:

  • Starmates (星友足) — Human-like, friendly
  • Boobos (卜卜族) — Cute and animal-like
  • Insouls (因索族) — Mechanical and tech-styled
  • Weirca (危咔族) — Wildly imaginative designs

You’ll encounter Minies while exploring, build friendships over time, and eventually invite them to move in with you. Once they do, they get their own room — decorated exactly to their taste — and they start living alongside you, commenting on your outfits, remembering gifts you gave them, and sharing in your daily life.

The first alpha test included nearly 50 Minies to meet. The game launches with 100 Minies’ worth of content — including 1.5 million words of dialogue, over 90 expression animations, and more than 80 life scenario performances.

Meet all the Minies

Your Companion: Wupa (乌帕)

Before you meet the Minies, you’ll have Wupa — a lucky cat-like creature who becomes your personal companion from day one. Inspired by real stray animals, Wupa is a symbol of good fortune in Minietopia. Each Wupa has its own appearance and personality, and can even help carry you through the air as you explore.

How Is It Different From Animal Crossing?

Both games share a cozy, miniature-world aesthetic — but Animula Nook takes a different approach:
