Animula Nook Is Heading to Gamescom 2026 in Cologne

Animula Nook was at Gamescom 2026 (Aug 26–30) in Cologne. The booth, the playtest demo the team confirmed after the show — and the release date that never came.

🚌 All aboard the Wubus — next stop: Cologne

Animula Nook will be at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne from 26 to 30 August 2026. The team confirmed it on 17 July, announcing that Minietopia’s tiny world is making the trip to one of the biggest gaming events on the planet.

If you’re in Cologne this summer, you’ll be able to step away from the big-big world and spend some time with the teeny-tiny Minies in person.

EventGamescom 2026
Dates26–30 August 2026
LocationKoelnmesse, Cologne, Germany
BoothHall 08.1 · Space A-051-B-050 (as listed in the team’s 17 July announcement)
Opening Night Live25 August 2026, 20:00 CEST — the showcase the evening before the floor opens

Worth knowing how crowded this year’s show is: gamescom 2026 sold out all of its exhibitor space for the first time in the event’s history, with Konami, Tencent Games, Level Infinite, NCSOFT and Embark Studios joining an exhibitor list that already included NetEase Games, HoYoverse, Nintendo, Xbox, Ubisoft and Capcom. A booth is not a small thing to have secured.

🎪 What the team says it’s bringing

From the official announcement:

  • 🤖 Meet brand-new Minie friends at the booth
  • 🎁 Exclusive event gifts
  • 💖 Chat with fellow Wishweavers and the team
  • ✨ Some unexpected surprises teased for the event

The team asked players to follow official channels for more booth updates closer to the show.

❓ What hadn’t been confirmed going in

Worth keeping on the record, because it is what the team had and hadn’t said with the doors about to open. Two of these four have since been answered — the demo one yes, the date one no — and the answers are in the 31 August wrap-up below:

  • No playable demo has been confirmed. The announcement doesn’t say whether there’s a hands-on build on the floor. (Answered after the show: there was one.)
  • No new trailer has been announced for the show.
  • No release date reveal has been teased. There’s still no date, window or year — see the release date page.
  • No stage slot at Gamescom Opening Night Live or any other showcase has been announced. ONL runs on 25 August at 20:00 CEST, and as of 18 August Animula Nook is not among the premieres host Geoff Keighley has announced for it — though the full lineup is never revealed in advance, so that is not the same as being ruled out.

Update — 16 August: the quiet spell ended, but it did not bring anything new. @Animula_Nook posted a [Gamescom Guide] restating the dates (26–30 August) and the booth (Hall 08.1, Space A-051-B-050) — the same two details already announced on 17 July — alongside a character post about Wupa cramming German ahead of the show, tagged #ShrinkAtGamescom. So the team is posting about Gamescom again, but a month on from asking players to watch official channels for more booth updates, no further booth detail has actually been published.

Update — 22–25 August: the booth material arrived. In the four days before the show floor opened, @Animula_Nook published everything below — all first-party, all English-language:

DateWhat went out
22 AugBooth coordinates confirmed: Hall 08.1, Space A-051-B-050, Koelnmesse, 26–30 August
23 AugBooth Tour Guide — the booth sits inside the Tencent Games area, next to the walkway connecting Halls 7 and 8; complete 3 small tasks at the booth for a raffle ticket, with every ticket a winner
23 AugVirtual Booth Tour launched at animulanook.com/shrinkatgamescom, running 23–31 August, 12:00 (UTC+8)
23 AugVirtual-booth raffle: answer a Minie Q&A to generate a shareable card, post it on X with 3 tags, and enter to win one of 5 Gamescom-exclusive merch bundles (the full 6-piece Minies glasses set, a Wupa plush, and more)
24 AugGamescom 2026 Gameplay Trailer — “Line 0826 is heading for Cologne”
24 AugA Quick Look at What’s New — previews a new Photo Mode, smoother movement, a day/night cycle, more Minietopia detail and additional outfits. The team’s own caption is explicit: “Animula Nook is currently in development. Content shown in this video does not represent the final quality of the game.”
24 AugA giveaway run with content creators, entered via X and Discord
25 AugA “SUPER BIG WUPA” photo-op appearance at the booth

All of it carries the #ShrinkAtGamescom tag. The Steam page is store.steampowered.com/app/3767320/Animula_Nook/.

One thing worth not double-counting: the Photo Mode teased in the 24 August “What’s New” video and the camera feature described for the 22 September “Ding Ge” test in Chinese coverage look like the same feature described from two different channels — but neither side has given the other’s date, so don’t read the 22 September date onto the English-side feature or vice versa.

Update — 26 August: the doors opened, and the booth is real. At 12:52 UTC on Day 1, @Animula_Nook posted four photographs of the finished stand — “please accept this fresh first-hand showcase of our complete booth✨Wupa and the Minies are right here waiting for your arrival!” Two details in that post are new, and both matter if you are going:

  • The booth experience has a name: the “Shrinking Adventure”. The post invites visitors to “Grab your chance to experience the Shrinking Adventure first-hand!” At the time this was not enough to call it a playable build: “first-hand” described the booth experience, and the 23 August guide described the activity as three small tasks, not a game session. ⚠️ The team resolved this itself on 31 August — see below. The reading here was the right one to hold on 26 August with the evidence available; it was not the final answer.
  • Merch is a daily allocation, not a one-time drop. “Everyday merch slots are limited, so just come take yours before they’re gone!” The 23 August guide already said every raffle ticket wins — what Day 1 adds is that the supply resets per day and runs out. If you are attending on one of the public days (27–30 August), go early.

🎮 The show closed, and the demo was real {#the-show-closed-and-the-demo-was-real}

Update — 31 August: the team says outright that people played it. The floor shut on 30 August, and @Animula_Nook’s wrap-up post the next day describes the week in its own words:

“So many Wishweavers spent the day diving into our latest playtest demo 🎮, completing stamp quests 📋, and wishing upon a star for their favorite merch! The joy truly filled every nook and cranny. More unforgettable moments from gamescom are on the way in our upcoming recap video — stay tuned! Couldn’t join us in Cologne? You can still explore our Virtual Booth Tour from home.”

That settles the question this page had open since July. “Playtest demo” is the team’s own phrase, and it is the first time anyone from the team used it about the booth. The “stamp quests” in the same sentence are the three small tasks from the 23 August guide, so the two things ran side by side — the tasks were never the whole of it.

⚠️ What it still does not say, so this page doesn’t either: how much of the game the demo contained, whether it was the same build as the 22 September “Ding Ge” test, or whether anything from it will be playable from home. A booth demo is not a test you can sign up for.

Update — 1 September: the recap video landed, and it announces nothing. The video promised in the wrap-up post went out the next day, under the heading “Recap | @gamescom × @Animula_Nook | Shrink At Gamescom”:

“Five days at Gamescom, and every single moment was a precious treasure to us. 💫 From the very first booth setup to the stage lights turning on, and every fun activity in between — all the magical memories we created with you will be kept safely in our treasure box. 🌈💕 Thank you to everyone who visited us, and to all the Wishweavers cheering for us behind the screen. 💖 Gamescom may be over, but Minietopia’s magic never stops ✨”

That is the whole of it — a look back. No release date, no window, no test sign-up, no platform information; nothing in the caption changes a line of what is above. Two more posts followed on 3 September, both about the booth rather than the game: a street pop-quiz run with visitors, and a behind-the-scenes post about the booth decorations.

What the rest of the week looked like, all first-party, all from @Animula_Nook:

DateWhat went out
26 AugDay 1 — photographs of the finished booth, the “Shrinking Adventure” invitation, daily merch slots
27 AugDay 2 — “Thank you all for joining our Lilliput gathering”, plus a push to the Virtual Booth Tour for anyone not in Cologne
27–28 AugCharacter posts in the Minies’ voice, and giveaways run jointly with content creators
31 AugThe wrap-up quoted above, plus a repeat link to the Virtual Booth Tour
1 SepThe recap video, quoted above
3 SepThe booth pop-quiz and a behind-the-scenes post on the booth decorations

No release date, no window, no year, and no international test sign-up appeared at any point in the five days. The show did not change the release date picture at all.

📰 And separately, a publisher statement — via Korean press

Distinct from the posts above, because it is not the game’s own English channel: Inven Global reported on 1 September that Proxima Beta announced it had shown “the latest development build” of Animula Nook at Gamescom 2026. The piece describes changes made after the first CBT — expanded exploration spaces, a new photography feature, improved character movement, NPC interactions and housing, plus a day-to-night lighting cycle — and quotes the team:

“If the first CBT was a process to confirm whether players wanted to enter this tiny world, we are now focusing on making them want to stay for a long time and build their own daily lives here.”

Two things to know before leaning on any of that:

  • ⚠️ It is a translation, and the outlet says so“This article was originally written in Korean and translated with the help of AI.” Wording is therefore approximate; the quote above is reproduced as Inven Global published it in English, not as the team said it.
  • ⚠️ It mentions “PC, mobile, and Mac” optimisation. That is a media-relayed line from a Korean-language announcement, not an English first-party platform statement, so it has not been written into the platform list anywhere on this site. Treat the announced platforms as unchanged until an official English channel says otherwise.

The one genuinely new item in it: the second CBT schedule will be announced later, through the official website and community lounge. That is consistent with — and adds nothing to — the Chinese-channel 22 September date covered below, which remains a China-region test with no international equivalent announced.

🍂 The second test now has a date — just not this one

Context that makes the show land differently than expected: on 24 August 2026, two days before Gamescom opened, Tencent’s official Chinese channels named China’s second test the “定格” (“Ding Ge”) test and dated it 22 September 2026, with sign-ups open 24 August–15 September. Tencent had already said at SPARK 2026 that the new Insoul race arrives in that next test.

That undercuts what this section used to expect — that Gamescom’s 30 August close, right before the autumn window, would be the natural moment to say something to an international audience. Instead the date came out through Chinese channels, two days before the show, not at or after it.

Two honest caveats:

  • The date came through a Chinese channel, not an English-language one. No overseas second test has been confirmed, and no international sign-ups have opened. See the release date tracker for what is and isn’t confirmed.
  • @Animula_Nook’s Gamescom posts (22–25 August) don’t mention the test at all — they’re booth logistics, the trailer and the “What’s New” preview, covered above.

📌 Why this matters

Gamescom is one of the largest gaming events in the world, and a dedicated booth is a significant milestone for a cozy life sim. It’s another sign of momentum for a game that recently passed 10 million pre-registrations — confirmed in the 6 July mid-year dev update — ahead of its still-unannounced launch.

If you’ve been following Minietopia’s journey — from the SPARK 2026 reveals to the March 2026 alpha — Gamescom was the game’s biggest public appearance yet, and the first time since that alpha that members of the public got their hands on it.
